Pregabalin and Gabapentin Reclassification Posted on 20 Feb 2019

From 1st April 2019 Gabapentin and Pregabalin have been reclassified as schedule 3 controlled drugs under the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001 and Class C of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.

This means that the items are no longer able to be issued electronically to pharmacies and cannot be issued as a repeat item. This will not have any impact on the drug availability however the process of issuing the prescription will take longer.

Therefore please allow a minimum of 5 days for your first prescription after 1st April 2019, and any subsequent prescriptions please allow 3 working days.
